This month’s edition of False Promises basks in the neon glow of the 80’s inspired genre, Synthwave (or Retrowave if you’d prefer). This episode features retro-inspired synthesiser melodies, awesome vocals, and lots of reverb! If you like the Stranger Things soundtrack or grew up in the eighties with a love for the synth-laden music of the decade, then this should be for you.
The episode starts on a wistful tone, however, the mood picks up as the show progresses through the hour. At the halfway point, the music turns a little darker, and the energy begins to rise with the tempo picking up. The final record ends the show on a somewhat funky high!
Episode 009 is more like a compilation, rather than the traditional DJ mix format. Synthwave isn’t exactly a ‘DJ friendly’ genre, meaning it’s incredibly difficult to mix seamlessly from track to track. However, difficult as it may be to mix with, it’s a genre that I’ve fallen in love with over the course of the last four to five years since discovering the artist, FM-84. As a result, I wanted to put together my own mix of some of my current favourites that I could enjoy at any time.
Enjoy :)
