Before we begin!!!

The Smokin' Aces playlist is now available to follow and stream on Spotify, it'll be updated weekly with all the tunes featuring in these blog posts.

Playing catch up here, as I'm three of four posts behind schedule! So, here's entry number 24! Officially halfway through my planned 48 posts for the year!

This entry is a gem that I have been listening to for most of the week, I woke up one morning with the song on my mind. I've not heard this for years, so it was a little strange that it randomly came to me! This entry is a House music record titled 'Deepest Blue' by the British electronic music duo of the same name (Joel Edwards, Matt Schwartz). It was a huge success and reached number seven in the UK Singles Chart when it was released in 2003. This track was one of those infectious records that most people could enjoy, even if the listener wasn't necessarily a fan of the electronic dance music genres. The catchy and melodic bassline really drove the song on and the easy to learn vocals were effortlessly able to hook a listener in; it's a very simple production, really, but as the saying goes... simple is best. The early to mid-2000s was a great time period for this particular 'sound' of House music, in fact, I could easily pick out another handful of records to blog about that have a similar vibe to Deepest Blue. Maybe a few of these other records will make an appearance in future editions of the Smokin' Aces blog posts.

Originally, this track was written by Joel and produced by Anthony Mein, however, this version didn't gain any interest, according to the Wikipedia entry about the record (not sure how accurate this is). It was then taken to Matt Schwartz and a new version was produced, which is the version we (or, some, at least) all know and love.

Anyway, throw on this uplifting classic and let the music engulf you. This production is perfect for a summer soundtrack; if Deepest Blue doesn't put you into some sort of euphoric or feel-good state, you clearly have no soul, and there's no hope for you... ;-)

Make sure to check out more of Deepest Blue's music if you enjoy this record!
