I am aware that I'm late with week 12! I've been having some issues with my studio computer recently and getting that up and running has been my priority! Once I'd gotten it functional, the next episode of False Promises was due, so that also took priority! As it stands, I'm a week behind, but I'll catch up!

Anyway, week 12's TOTW comes from the talented Australian singer/songwriter called Wafia. The track in question is called 'Heartburn'; the original mix is awesome, it's a little more melancholic than the version I chose to feature as the TOTW, though. Instead, I decided to feature the remix by Swedish production duo Jarami (Rami Dawod and Jacob Olofsson), as I was really digging the relaxing and funky vibes. It was one of the tunes keeping me going during my extremely tedious week of file management and backing up 100s of gigabytes of data, before trying to identify the issue with my computer.

This is a perfect example of why I love listening to remixes so much; Jarami has taken what was originally quite a wistful and sad sounding record, injected a shot of funk and given the entire vibe and vocal an uplifting feel. A well-done remix can really enhance and compliment the artistic vision of the original artist. I always preferred working on remixes when I used to produce under a different name, it's fun to be given a bunch of parts from a song and being told to twist it into something else! It's nice having a rough sketch to work from in the form of the original artist's melodies/vocals etc, to then plan your own musical ideas around. On the flip side, creating remixes may be more fun, but it's not as satisfying as creating something from scratch that you can call your own.
